Education / practical training

 

September 2004:Completion of the formal training at the Deutsche Journalistenschule

Since October 2003: Additional university classes in Eastern European Studies

Since November 2002:Scholar of the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation 

Since September 2001:Journalist training course at the Deutsche Journalistenschule, Munich,in combination with a journalism course at the Ludwig-Maximilians University

 

Journalistic experience

 

Free-lance work (focus on s ocial politics) for various quality publications, for instance:Die Zeit, Die Welt, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Frankfurter Rundschau, Spiegel Online

January-May 2005: Internship with the headquarter of the wire-service UPI in Washington.

November/December 2004:  PR-Internship at the Warsaw-office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation. Work as an editor for books and other publictions.

January-March 2003:Internship with the local offices of the daily newspapers Berliner Morgenpost and  Die Welt in Berlin

September 2002:Internship with the French regional newspaper Dépêche du Midi in Tarbes (southern France)

February – August 2001:Responsible for press communication of my regiment during my military service

May/ June 2000:Internship in the newsroom of the Hessisch-Niedersächsische Allgemeine in Frankenberg

Since 1999:Freelance work for the newspaper Hessisch-Niedersächsische Allgemeine in Frankenberg (local office, youth supplement)

1996-2000:Editor of the school newspaper Pennenspatz

 

Awards

 

2004:Short-listed for the Axel-Springer award for young journalists, in the category „Best radio feature“

2004:Second place in a business competition in Munich, organized by the Ludwig-Maximilians-University

2002:Third Place at the Activest-Future-Award for a report about Eastern Europe, which was published in internet

1999 & 2000:Honorable mention / first place at a competition for student newspapers sponsored by the leading news magazine Der Spiegel, in the category online-presentation

1999:Second place in a history competition on Eastern Europe, sponsored by the parliament of Hessen

 

Voluntary work

 

Since 2003:Participation in a multi-national project organized by Warsaw University which compiles a documentation on life in the concentration camp Auschwitz

Since 2003:Design of a non-profit opinion magazine for students
